Highlander Construction & Development Presented with Community Service Award by the New River Valley Home Builder’s Association
The New River Valley Home Builder’s Association presented Highlander Construction & Development with the Community Service Award on January 25, 2014 at its annual Inaugural Gala which was held at The Inn at Virginia Tech.
The Community Service Award is voted on by the General Membership of the Association and is awarded to an active member who demonstrates community service excellence for a project in the New River Valley. Highlander Construction & Development was nominated for its Home For The Troops project for former marine SSgt. Jeremy Austin and his family.
Highlander Construction & Development brought together many local businesses to provide services and materials for this project. “What we’re giving him pales in comparison to what he’s given for us,” said James Oliver, of Highlander Construction. Austin lost both his legs in an April 2009 IED attack in Afghanistan. He gets around pretty well on his prosthetic legs, but occasionally uses a wheelchair. The Austin’s were handed the keys to their new home on Saturday October 5, 2013.
